A passport is for identity verification, while a visa permits you to enter a country.  If you are a U.S. citizen planning to travel abroad, you may need a visa to enter a foreign country.  While not all countries require visas for American travelers, many do. Look up your destination using the U.S. State Department’s  Learn About Your Destination search tool.  On the country’s information page, you will find entry, exit, and visa requirements. You will also find travel advisories and a link to the country’s embassy.

You may transport unloaded firearms in a locked hard-sided container as checked baggage only. Declare the firearm and/or ammunition to the airline when checking your bag at the ticket counter. The container must completely secure the firearm from being accessed. Locked cases that can be easily opened are not permitted.

If you lose your passport, whether traveling abroad or in the U.S., you’ll need to report the loss as soon as possible and apply for a replacement. If you’re abroad: Work with the local U.S. embassy or consulate to get a permanent or temporary passport so you can return home.
